WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over former WBO champ Carlos Quintana (27-3, 21 KOs) on Saturday night at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Berto showed signs of ring rust, but ultimately was too fast and powerful for the game, former champion Carlos Quintana. Berto hurt Quintana with a sneaky right hand, and Quintana was visibly stunned as he backed into the ropes. Referee Tommy Kimmons waved it off after a sustained barrage by Berto. Time was 2:16. Kimmons deducted a point from Quintana in round three for a rabbit punch. The card was billed as “Fighting for Haiti” with a portion of the proceeds from tickets sold going to benefit those affected by the recent earthquake in Berto’s native Haiti.



Earlier, WBA junior featherweight champion Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KOs) moved up to featherweight to dominate previously unbeaten WBA #2 contender Daud Yordan (25-1, 19 KOs). Caballero, trained by Jeff Mayweather, dropped Yordan at the end of round two and dominated the fight, tripling the punch output of Yordan en route to a twelve round unanimous decision by scores of 119-108, 120-107, 118-108. Caballero wins the vacant WBA interim featherweight title.
