CANELO GETS A TITLE, BRONER DECISIONS DE LEON

In a meaningless fight for the vacant WBC super welterweight title, miraculously #1 rated Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (36-0-1, 26 KOs) scored a one-sided unanimous decision over European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (41-5-2, 16 KOs) on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The heavy-handed Alvarez unloaded every punch in his aresenal, consistently catching Hatton with vicious shots, but couldn't put the Englishmen down. Hatton, a career welterweight was the much smaller man in the ring but took the punches very well under the circumstances. (Alvarez failed on two attempts to make weight for a contracted weight limit imposed by his team) Canelo outgunned Hatton the whole fight, but didn't deter Hatton from his goal of becoming champion. All three judges scored it 119-108.

Adrien "The Procrastinator" Broner takes De Leon to a points victory


In HBO's opening fight, Adrien Broner scored his biggest win to date with a close unanimous decision victory over Daniel Ponce De Leon. Broner secured victory, by scores of 96-94, 96-94 and 99-91, keeping his unbeaten record in tact at 20-0 with 16 KOs. Broner talked it up before the fight about how he would walk right through his opponent, but the only walking being done were from the fans leaving The Honda Center out of sheer boredom. The super-talented Broner landed the more meaningful power shots as he consistently rocked De Leon's head back with counter left hooks and straight right hands. But, most of the action came from the output of the game De Leon as he tried to extend his win streak to 8 in a row. De Leon drops to 41-3, 34 KOs, and he is considering a return to the featherweight division. Broner collect the vacant WBO inter-continental junior lightweight title.

James Kirkland W Ashandi Gibbs
In a scheduled eight round super middleweight bout, James Kirkland made a victorious comeback to the ring, releasing a ruthless onslaught of punches that sent the overmatched Ashandi Gibbs to the canvas for the 10 count At 0:34 of round one. With the victory, Kirkland improves to 26-0, 23 KOs while Gibbs falls to 10-3, 4 KOs).

Daniel Jacobs W Robert Kliewer
In a scheduled 10 round super middleweight bout, once defeated contender Daniel "The Golden Child" Jacobs stopped Robert Kliewer, backing him against the ropes before landing a hard right cross that dropped him hard to the canvas. Kliewer would beat the count but Jacobs timed him again with another right hand that dropped Kliewer for the ten count. Time of the stoppage was 1:44 of round one. Jacobs improves to 22-1, 19KOs while Kliewer drops to 11-13-2, 5 KOs.
