Herning to host decisive Super Six clash between Kessler and Green

(05.08.2010) - WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler willmake his decisive Group Stage 3 Super Six World Boxing Classic fight in Herning, Denmark.The Viking Warrior will take on Allan Green on September 25 th as both men need nothing but avictory to secure passage to the semi-finals. The fight will serve as the grand opening of thenewly-built state-of-the art MCH Multiarena Herning, the first multi-functional arena in Denmark.A sell-out crowd of 13,500 fans is expected to raise the roof.

“This will be a very special eveningfor boxing fans in Denmark and all over the world,” Kalle Sauerland said. “The stakes havenever been higher. It is not just Mikkels WBC belt that is on the line but he also needs a victoryto progress in the Super Six tournament. Allan Green is very dangerous but with a sell-outcrowd behind him Mikkel will make his country proud and knock him out.”

It will be Kesslers third fight in Herning. In September 2009, he stopped Gusmyr Perdomo inthe fourth round to book his place in the Super Six tournament. After losing his belt to AndreWard in Round 1 on Oakland, he rebounded with a spectacular victory over Carl Froch. Aboisterous sell-out crowd of 9,500 fans witnessed what has been dubbed as the best-fight everon Danish soil.

“I look forward to returning to Herning,” Kessler said from his training camp basein Berlin, where he held a media work-out session today. “The victory over Froch was veryimportant but I need to take care of Green now – otherwise it will not be worth anything. I amdetermined to open the new arena in style and that means I will beat Green decisively.”

Georg Soerensen, CEO of MCH Herning, is already looking forward to another great night ofboxing in Herning. “We thought the victory over Carl Froch was as good as it gets but the grandopening of the new MCH Multiarena Herning and the drama of the Super Six tournament makethe fight against Green even more special. We could not have found a better event for thehistoric opening and I have no doubts that Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green will make September25 a night to remember.”

The fight again be televised live by Danish Pay-Per-View giant Viasat. It will start around 23:00Danish time and is part of a SHOWTIME double-header. On the same night, WBA ChampionAndre Ward will take on Andre Dirrell at a venue to be announced in the US. Tickets for theKessler-Green fight will be go on sale soon.
