In west coast heavyweight clash, Tomasz Adamek (41-1, 27 KOs) notched another victory with a twelve round majority decision over "The Nightmare" Chris Arreola (28-2, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, California. Arreola, outweighed Adamek by 33 pounds, appeared much slower and had difficulty mounted a sustained offense against the former two time world champion. Both fighters landed big shots in the middle of the fight. Arreola’s size and strength became more of a factor as the fight progressed but Adamek adapted by showing the difference in handspeed, experience, and overall boxing ability. Arreola picked up the pressure in the later rounds, but to no avail. Adamek would cruise to a decision by outboxing Arreola in front of a pro Arreola crowd. Scores were 114-114, 115-113, 117-111.
In an intriguing clash of big-punching junior middleweights, WBO interim champion Alfredo Angulo (18-1, 15 KOs) stopped Joel Julio (35-4, 31 KOs) in the eleventh round. Boxing from a distance, Julio outworked Angulo for the first half of the fight. Angulo’s pressure and timing began to catch Julio in spots making the fight very uneasy for the Columbian power puncher. Down the stretch, Angulo found the right formula by timing Julio with a big overright hand that put Julio down hard. He would beat the count but was unable to continue. Time was 1:39.
