IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs) scored a devastating twelfth round knockout over “Fast" Eddie Chambers (35-2, 18 KOs) on Saturday night before 51,000 at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany. Klitschko was dominated the entire fight from the first ding. After Chambers body slammed Klitschko in round two, Klitschko thumped Chambers with a right hand causing lots of pain for the American heavyweight hopeful. Chambers became a bit passive as he looked as if victory was a 1,000 mile jog away.
Wladimir went after Chambers with everything he had in round twelve. Wladimir stopped Chambers with a brutal left hook that sent Chambers into the ropes falling onto his face. Referee Geno Rodriquez stopped the contest at 2:55 of the twelfth and final round.
Both fighters speak:
“Chambers is an extraordinary boxer,” said IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko following his twelfth round KO win over mandatory challenger Eddie Chambers. “He is very, very quick and preemptive. In the last rounds I gave everything and I am very happy about the result. To me Chambers gave up mentally after round six. It’s hard to hit somebody who is very passive and tries not to be knocked out.”
Eddie Chambers stated, “I knew about his quick right hand but I couldn’t do anything against it. When I lifted him up I wanted to take him out of his fight plan. I can’t remember the knockout.” After the press conference, Chambers had to go to hospital. The fight took place at the sold-out ESPRIT arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. The attendance was 51,000.
