"Are You Hooked Yet?"

Looking for entertainment? Got only a couple of hours to spare? If you were anywhere in the vicinity of Biloxi, Mississippi, the going rate for two hookers was a whopping $35.00. A duel, billed as "Hook City," featured two fighters at the tail end of their careers, as Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) would stop former 168 pound title holder Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) in a battle to determine who has the best left hook in the sport. The answer to that widely advertised question became even more clear at the end of the tenth round in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Miguel Cotto still has the best left hook in boxing.

After declaring Roy Jones as "finished" at the weigh in on Friday, Jeff Lacy found himself being one of the last opponents, shown getting blistered with punches, on a Roy Jones career highlight reel. In a signature "RJ-esque" performance, Jones played with the crowd and toyed with Jeff Lacy, stopping him after the 10th round to retain the NABO light heavyweight championship title.

Jones would use his highly publicized left hook to make Jeff Lacy eat his words as he painted the face of the former champion swelling both of his eyes in the process. Lacy tried to muscle Jones on the ropes throughout the fight, which apparently he felt was the key to victory. Lacy tried to contest Jones in the corners, but Roy would cover up and continue to talk to the crowd before releasing several hard shots to the head and body of his opponent.

The one-sided drubbing eventually took it's toll on Lacy as he would not answer to the bell for the eleventh round, making Roy Jones the first fighter to stop the durable Lacy. This victory moves Jones a little closer in attempts to lure Bernard Hopkins into a long overdue rematch, which is his only lucrative option at this point. If that fight isn't in the foreseeable future, look for Jones to continue his career possibly fighting light heavyweight Danny Green who fought victoriously the under card.

It is not premature to dismiss this fight as a battle of shot fighters. But, the so called pundits have a decorated history of labeling fighters as "shot" only for them to rebound, and rebuild their careers, catapulting themselves back in the spotlight. It was just three years ago when that brand of being "shot" was stuck to Shane Mosley like a decal to a football helmet. Now, he's stands front and center as the top dog in his respective division. Though it is very clear that the best days are clearly behind the 40 year-old Roy Jones, it remains rather interesting to see if the former pound for pound great can regain the status of the top dog before hanging up the gloves for good. Stranger things have happened before. We will see.
